Let’s land you that dream VC role! 🪄

Hi! I’m glad you’re here. You’ve made it to issue #44 of VC Demystified🪄.
My name’s Nicole - I’m a Principal at an early stage venture fund, and I know firsthand that VC can often be a black box. Breaking into the industry may feel daunting and resources can seem scarce and inaccessible. I wanted to put together a newsletter to give others the playbook I wish I had when I first started.
I’ve had the chance to connect with some of you 1×1 to provide personalized advice based on your current situation. It’s been amazing! If you’re an aspiring VC, you can chat with me live through this limited time offer here.
Today’s deep dive: 3 suggestions on how to better your odds of landing a VC role even if you don’t have “traditional” experience
My personal mission is to open as many doors as possible for other people and this newsletter is just one avenue to do that. As always, I will continue to post VC insights daily for free across my socials.

3 suggestions on how to better your odds of landing a VC role even if you don’t have “traditional” experience
Breaking into venture capital is tough.
There are few job openings, firms rarely hire publicly, and the industry values networks over resumes.
But you don’t need an investment banking job, an MBA, or a startup exit to land a role in VC.
Here are some ways to stand out and get hired even without a traditional background.
Suggestion #1: Build a Public Track Record Before You Apply
VCs hire people who think like investors. The best way to prove you belong in the industry? Build signal before you ever apply.
Write about startups and markets – Share insights on trends, company breakdowns, or investment theses. A personal newsletter or LinkedIn presence can go a long way.
Scout for investors – Many VC firms have informal scout programs. Even if unpaid, it gives you direct experience sourcing deals.
Angel invest (if possible) – Even small checks through syndicates show that you can identify strong companies.
Engage with the ecosystem – Comment on investor tweets, LinkedIn posts, or industry reports. Be visible.
If your name keeps popping up in smart discussions, investors will start paying attention.
Suggestion #2: Get in the Right Rooms
Most VC jobs aren’t posted. To hear about opportunities, you need to be plugged into the right networks.
